Writing is a rollercoaster. A maze about to turn the corner not sure whether you are going to reach a dead end or can move on to the next twist and turn.
Writing in my life has been exactly that. Writing began as a collection of letters. I needed to show people what I am called; C H E R I S H. As I perfected my craft it transformed in to telling a story. Putting my imagination on paper for people to experience the adventures within me. The years went on and writing grew into a composition of text that critiqued others, displayed my understanding of others, persuasion to others, provided information to others. Every once in a while I’d still be able to paint a picture of who I am. But more so, it eventually ended as anxiety, fear, an obstacle I couldn’t overcome.
Most people see successful writing as a book that was published. The best seller. One that was turned into a movie. One that received an award. But what about the beautiful imagery laid out in stanzas or verses that will never be heard? What about the memoirs of individuals that will never be remembered? What about the information provided that will never be stored and relayed? Successful writing is any gathering of words in a coherent way. And in that case, anyone can produce successful writing.
Based off my definition of successful writing, I would have to consider myself a successful writer. I couldn’t worry about the barriers and obstacles. However, I have never seen myself that way. English class had been my hardest subject throughout grade school. That didn’t change in college. To be transparent, the reason I am 26 and still taking college classes is because I have failed English 2089 three times now. Formal writing has given me anxiety and the feeling of writer’s block since high school. My proudest pieces of writing have only been creative and poems. Letting the story flow from my pen, well nowadays, keys, is what gives me joy when it comes to writing.
So, as of right now, and in this class I hope to make it to the top of the rollercoaster or be able to turn the corner and see the finish of my maze.
